Best Book of June/July Preview

Retrieved from: http://blisscarmannews.wordpress.com/2011/11/11/weird-wacky-8-the-firework/
There's no point lying to you guys--June was a rough month for Reading to Penguins. My personal life exploded with a series of things that NEED TO GET DONE, RIGHT NOW, OR OMG, THE WORLD MIGHT END. So books took forever to be read, there were a good number of DNFs, I haven't been visiting other blogs or commenting as often as usual, and I haven't participated in any hops or followed anyone new in weeks. But July is going to be better, right? Well...

Because I'm moving next week, and because our internet may take some time to get set up, and because my wedding is in August (AHHH!), I honestly don't know if I'll be able to do better. But I'll try. So keep visiting, keep commenting, keep being the awesome followers that you are, and just know that if I don't respond right away it's probably because I'm lost in a maze of boxes. I will reply and visit you back...eventually.

Okay, so we do have to crown the book of the month. The winner is--

Bring Him Home

Bring Him Home, by Karina Bliss, with a 4 star rating. While not perfect, this is a book where there are so many great elements that you find yourself forgiving a multitude of flaws. And for the reader with a chaotic life, you can't do better than Karina Bliss when it comes to emotionally gripping escapist novels.

Okay, so, what am I going to read in July? Tentatively, the list is as follows:

First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones I meant to have this finished by the end of June, but alas, I am only 23% in. I will say that I'm finding a lot to like and dislike about it, so it should make and interesting review.

The Color of Snow by Brenda Stanley The review should post on July 3. I hope.

Captain America: Winter Soldier Ultimate Collection

No Good Deed by Bill Blais

Audition by Stasia Ward Kehoe

Tempest Rising (Jane True) by Nicole Peeler

Haunted (Women of the Otherworld, Book 5) by Kelley Armstrong

The Stepsister Scheme (PRINCESS NOVELS) by Jim C. Hines

The name of the game in the coming months is to read some of the books that have sat on my shelf for way to long.

What are you reading at the moment? What are you planning to read next?

  1. Other things in life have a way of impacting on our blogging/following blogs time, don't they? As far as I'm concerned, I completely understand if you're too busy too visit! I loved Tempest Rising and The Stepsister Scheme, so I think your July list is pretty amazing. Happy reading!

I love your blog make-over by the way!
