FF 2012 Feature & Follow #115

Q: What hyped up book do you think was not worth all the talk?

Existing readers can already guess my answer. Twilight. Dear God, Twilight. By the time it came out, I had like five years of paranormal romance under my belt and so when I read that (or actually, listened to the audio book I think), I just couldn't. I was like "Yeah, it's a romance novel with a really douchey hero. Been there, seen that..." I think what made it worse were all of the people telling me that I "just don't get it", and also arguing the point that it is, in fact, a romance novel.  No, I get it. I understand the appeal. But I like my romance novels to have likeable MCs, relationship building, and satisfying endings. Thanks.

End rant.

Books that were worth the hype?

Hunger Games was not as good as people said, but it was still good. Anna and the French Kiss surpassed my expectations. Divergent was decent. I'm sure there's others...

  2. Hi! I'm a new follower.

I now regret not saying Twilight when I answered this fff question! The heroine was whiny and hard to like. The writing mediocre. The last book was all build up and no climax. My apologies to Twilight fans, just stating my honest opinion. :)

  4. When I first read Twilight, I actually really liked it... but the 4th book just killed it for me. But by then it had became waay over-hyped. Nice pick!

Thanks for stopping by my FF :)

  5. Hopping through. haha...I'm a huge, huge Twilight fan...but it was my very first paranormal. It was something totally eye-opening for me. I was (and still am) able to look past all the (admittedly many) flaws and love the story behind it.

  6. Hi! Thanks for stopping by my FF. I'm following back! (:

Twilight was actually a good series, but in my opinion the movie sort of ruined it!

  7. LOL! I read Twilight years ago before the movie and all the hype. It was just a book. It's crazy to see how everything blew up.

  13. Nice points on Twilight! I was a paranormal reader for years myself prior to its release. I was a paranormal reader before there was a hoard of paranormal books to choose from!

Never read Hunger Games but seeing it a lot! It's not paranormal so it's not one I've read or will read. But I did read Divergent and liked that a lot!

    Here's my Follow Friday

    Have a GREAT weekend!

  14. I don't actually remember if I liked twilight or not, I read the first three when it was just a rumor that they might make it into a movie, it was entertaining at the time, but by the time the movie came out and then it got over-hyped I started to dislike it

  15. I really liked the first Twilight book but that was it. From New Moon on, it was all down hill ie Bad! I loved The Hunger Games and Anna. Divergent is sitting on my book shelf somewhere. Haven't gotten round to it yet. New follower via RSS

  19. I guess I read both Twilight and Hunger Games before the hype (and long before I was a book blogger, and I actually found out about HG through Stephenie Meyer's website because she did a little blurb about it before it was released), and I wasn't a paranormal romance reader back then. I still don't read that much of it, although I do read some. Anna and the French Kiss was wonderful, and Divergent was definitely worth reading (since both books were much touted by my bookish friends).

Thanks for stopping by my blog and giving me a follow, now I'm following you! Your blog is adorable!

  20. I SOOOOO agree about Twilight. I read them as they came out, and I liked them just fine (I wasn't an experienced paranormal reader at the time ;) but when the hype really exploded, my opinion on them went way down, I didn't think they were horrible, but the hype on them is just ridiculous. Anyway, I'm your newest follower from PJV's FF hop :)

  22. Totally agree about Twilight. I still need to read The Hunger Games. I'm not big on dystopians so I haven't read them yet.

  23. I've heard so many good things about 'Anna and the French Kiss', and I'm really tempted to read it, but...

I know it's out of my genre (too much romance, not enough blood and gore), and I'm afraid I'll absolutely hate it. Maybe one of these days I'll get around to it.

  26. Anna and the French Kiss exceeded my expectations, too. I was a bit skeptical about getting back into contemporary, but Anna was a very pleasant surprise. I also loved Lola and the Boy Next Door.

  33. I really loved Twilight but I also know that it wasn't exactly the most well written series. I've since found other series I love more. Hunger Games I agree with you. I thought the first book was great but I was really disappointed in the third.
